My name is Dawn Hoare, and I love words.

I especially love the English language, a wonderful mishmash of beautifully illogical words that can create brilliant, meaningful, comedic or addictive writing. I am native English-speaking and an avid reader, reading all sorts of books: crime fiction, whodunnits, chic lit and classics. I love to get lost in the world the author has created.

I’m a fully trained proofreader and copy-editor specialising in business, finance, wellbeing and related disciplines. I have over 25 years of experience in the finance industry. I can and do work in other genres, too. I offer copy-editing and proofreading services for publishers, professional societies, companies, independent business professionals, academic researchers and students.

I trained with Chapterhouse as a proofreader and copy-editor, achieving their certificate of competence, and completed the Knowadays Becoming a Proofreader course, enabling me to work with the proofreading company Proofed. 

I work with publishers, writers and proofreading companies. My experience includes proofreading business and self-help books, articles, research and working papers for publication in magazines and briefings, academic essays, CVs and editing podcasts. I am confident using different house styles and can work on many formats, including Microsoft and PDF editing tools. I work accurately but efficiently, and I am used to deadlines for pre-publication.
